Felicitaciones to Chile’s Nan Millan – chosen as best in Canoeing by the Circulo de Periodistas Deportivos de Chili. Well deserved 2013 nan millan 2013 awardaward!!

Canoeing does not get much press coverage in Chile – but Nan and her teammates made history (or herstory) by winning numerous medals at World Cups, World Championships, Pan American Championships and the Bolivarian Games. She and her teammate Maria Jose Mailliard surprised the world by staying committed to their double-lefty (two left side paddlers) crew set up and broke records. We knew they had talent. Through hard work, patience and perseverance – they stormed their way to the podium.

We remember when Nan was all alone – fighting for her right to compete in canoe in her country and represent her country in international competition. They did not believe in her. But she believed in herself and her ability to put Chile on the world map of Canoeing.

She is a pioneer in Chile and has inspired many women – and we think men, too – to train and race in Canoes.

Bien hecho Campeón!
